Adjective demostrative
If you find it before the noun, it is a demostrative pronoun, since like all adjectives, it gives more information about the noun.
Keep in mind these rules
1. Use this and these if the thing/things or action/actions find near in distance or time.
2. Use that and those if the thing/things or action/actions find away in distance or time.
Demostrative | Use |
This (este, esto, esta) | The thing or action is close physically or in time |
These (estos, estas) | The things or actions is close physically or in time |
That (eso, ese, esa, aquel, aquella, aquello) | The thing, person or action is physically distant or in time |
Those (esos, esas, aquellos, aquellos) | The things or actions is physically distant or in time |

That ball belongs to my sister. (Esa pelota pertenece a mi hermana)
That helicopter is flying low. (Ese helicóptero esta volando bajo)
